This week we are so excited to introduce you to our very own favorite flower fairy. Samantha Sell! This girl’s passion for flowers is intoxicating and if anyone is walking in their genius it is her. Grab a cup of coffee and read away because this brilliant, flower-boss-lady has some stellar tips, tricks and insight to everything floral for your wedding day!
BLOOM was founded in 2008 by creative, flower-mastermind, Jennifer Haf. Jen’s vision and execution of her company is a true inspiration to us. Sam became acquainted with BLOOM originally as a summer employee, however she discovered her passion for floral design and now is the studio manager and executive assistant of BLOOM.
BLOOM is an award winning, specialty floral company that focuses on custom wedding floral design to meet the needs and desires of every bride that walks through their doors.
Flowers are such an important piece of each wedding day; Sam refers to the flowers as the frosting on the cake of a perfect day. “Flowers are fleeting moments that make a lasting impact; they pull everything together” she says.
Flowers are the item that gets photographed the most throughout the big day, therefore it is beyond vital that there is cohesive coordination in the bride’s and bridesmaid’s bouquets, the groom’s and groomsmen’s boutonnieres, the centerpieces and any other floral details. When consulting with brides, BLOOM’s staff ensures that they understand the full vision of the bride’s big day. They often use the wedding invitation, venue, photographer, and the bride’s Pintrest board to bring her dreams to life.
Yet another important factor in choosing what blooms are best for the big day is taking close consideration of what flowers are in season on the wedding date. In addition, a bride’s flower budget plays a large role in some major deciding factors of what is best for the wedding day. Traditionally, roughly 10-20% of the wedding budget is dedicated to flowers. However, that may fluctuate depending on how important flowers are to you on your special day. It is important to keep in mind the guest count, bridal party, and any additional styling needs when thinking about your flower budget.
Flowers can be incorporated in just about any part of the wedding day. Lately we have taken special notice of flower crowns, flower arches, and even including blooms on the wedding cake.
When asking Sam about flower crowns she excitedly shared that they are her absolute favorite to design. “They are such a fun detail especially for the reception, bridal shower or even a bachelorette party,” Sam said.
“We love to integrate lots of greenery, some ranunculus and other blooms that will last throughout the longevity of the day” Sam also shared.
One of the most important floral elements are the centerpieces! When deciding centerpiece designs it all depends on the season, venue and tables. Sam’s favorite kind of centerpieces are the “really low, lush and tricking centerpieces that are natural and organic”. Another up and coming trend is incorporating fruit into table design. Depending on a bride’s color pallet, cherries, grapes, pears, figs and other fruits can add a unique flare to any table.
Shower your wedding day in blooms and nothing can go wrong. The ladies at BLOOM agree- there can simply never be too many flowers.
